March 12, 2019

Dear Partners,

Just wanted to give out some exciting news. We are adding a men's house which will give us room for up to 10 men. This is a big answer to prayer because we are full and committed to additional men. God is opening doors for us to greatly increase opportunities to give 'A Hand Up to a Better Life'. Thank you for your prayers and support, you are making a difference!

But there is more news! The owner of the first men's house has let us use this property rent free for almost two years has offered to sell the house and a large piece of property. He is 79 years old and just ready to cut back. It is a very good offer which gives us many options for ministry in the future. As young as we are it looked huge! The cost is $150,000.00! The property appraises for nearly twice as much. So, after much prayer and discussion, our board has decided to purchase the property. The Hand Up board has stepped out in faith believing that God is giving us an opportunity to stretch ourselves. Trust me it is stretching! We really feel we are stepping through a door that God is opening. These men and women on our board, that God has brought around Hand Up are excited about the future! They see what He is doing and believe He is setting us for even greater things!

So, we are starting with you, our Hand Up Village with this news. We need your prayers and support as never before. We are believing God is going to not only provide money to pay off the property, but also provide the monies to use it for His Glory!!!!!

In all my years in this Journey called Life, I have never been involved in anything that touches the heart of God more than Hand Up! His hand on us is so real and I truly feel the 'Best is Yet to come'!!

Watching and hearing men and women share how God is changing their lives is what motivates us to press on!

Be watching as we seek to let these participants and those who have completed share with everyone what God has done!

Will YOU also get excited with us and pray, 'God, How would YOU have ME be a part of what you are doing through Hand Up?'

I will be excited to hear from you how He responds to your question!!

Love you and so thankful for You,

Rex

Update 11/18

Good Morning! Just wanting to share some news with you. This is beginning our month 17 providing a men's and women's house here in Dade County. As of today, we have given opportunity to 12 men and women. We have 4 women and 3 men presently with us, we have had two complete the program and 3 who have moved on short of completion. It has been a privilege to walk with each of these and we feel a positive difference has been made with all.

Each one of you matter in the making a difference. We could not do it without your help.

This past year and four months has been a year of growth in many ways. Learning the system we have to work with to plan for participants who are available but also willing to be all in to the program. We have also learned and are continuing to learn how to model Jesus while holding those accountable to the new walk with Him.

We are so thankful for all the progress of these first months. We are believing we are getting into a position for the coming months to be even better. Some of these areas of improvement will need finances. Out of all God allows me to do I feel less able in this area of ministry than any other. So, all I know to do is ask each of you to prayerfully consider including Hand Up in your giving at the end of this year. If Jesus leads you to honor us with a financial gift that will be good but if He doesn't that good as well. More than finances we need prayer covering for all we do. God knows what we need, but He says at times "you have not because you do not ask not". So we ask you to ask Him what He wants you to do and we will be good with the answer!

Thank you so much for all you have done and all you do!

Love you, Rex

4 Pillars of Hand Up

Four Pillars of A Hand Up

Psalm 118:22, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the Chief Cornerstone.”

Hand Up is aware that the strength of any organization is the foundation pillars which everything else rest on. These pillars are the basis for all our goals and plans for ministry.

Pillar One: “Jesus” Jesus is the Head as well as the Chief Cornerstone (Pillar). Jesus says, “I have come that you may have Life and have it more abundantly.” John 10:10b. It is upon these Words that we base everything. Jesus is the Way to Life, but He is also the Way to experience Life. It is our main purpose to Lead people to a fulfilling relationship with Jesus. He is the Author and Finisher of our Faith!

Pillar Two: “Integrity” Integrity and honesty is something we must all work hard at. We let anyone who wants to be a part of the program that with Hand Up and everything good starts and ends with honesty. Our goal in teaching and training is to help persons discover what honesty and integrity look like. Encouraging them to make this who they are and strive to become. Modeling honesty and integrity is a must and expected from all leaders, mentors, and to the administrative persons alike. Oversight and integrity of all our finances, staff, participants, and volunteers is where Pillar Two begins and continues.

Pillar Three: “Discipleship” Jesus says, “Therefore GO and Make Disciples.” Matthew 28:19. As Disciples we are commanded to go and make disciples. As Disciples we must continue to follow Jesus and Learn, so we can to model Discipleship. So, this starts with Hand Up Leadership and is passed along to those God trusts into our care. But, we know that we can only lead people where we have been. We encourage participants to join in our personal discipleship journey. We Walk it together learning how to follow Jesus.

Pillar Four: “Stewardship” We are responsible to God first and then to everyone who gives of their time, talent, and or their treasure. Responsible to use it with honesty and integrity and to bring honor and glory to God. This involves everything we have been blessed with. Participants, volunteers, money, properties, furnishings, automobiles and the list continues to grow. Stewardship keeps us focused outward not just inward. We are part of our community and we feel responsible to help in the community.

Its these Four Pillars that direct our worship, preaching, teaching, and day to day living in our efforts to give a Hand Up to those needing and wanting a New Life.

Hand UP

Providing a Hand Up to a better Life!

November/December 2017

Hello Friends, Just taking a few minutes to share with you where we are at the Hand Up Houses. Things are changing we are now up to three participants in the women's house with several others applying. Mrs Tammie is handling the growth well. We have commitments from volunteers to help two weekends a month. We still have need for more “weekend warriors” so, continue to pray about stepping into a needed slot at the men's and women's houses. We still have our faithful man participant in men's house and excited about the opportunities ahead. Thanks to all of you who have helped out in some way. Thank you Waters's Church for the Thanksgiving meal and gifts you shared along with your time. That was awesome! Thank you Elaine for helping out the first weekend each month. Thank you churches that are adding us to your monthly giving. God is working mightily in our first four participants and we are convinced the best is yet to come. Our goal is still to build a village around these young men and women. We must be the church and demonstrate the love of the Father. Please prayerfully consider sharing some time. If you have some time get with us about ways to serve. If you have a church or business who would give us an opportunity to come and share we would love it. I could come and bring any of our participants and let you see what God is doing. Sunday nights or Wednesday nights will work most any time. Sunday mornings can be scheduled as well if this will work best for you. Just let me know. Those of you who want to get involved just fill out the volunteer information sheet and let us get in touch to answer any of your questions and find the perfect fit for to in HU!

Remember us especially during the Holiday season. We want to shower our love on the ones God has sent our way. Some of them have family and we want to help them in reaching out and showing they care while getting their lives back in order. So, consider Hand Up during the giving season.

Here are some more ways you can all help:

*Connect me with your pastor or churches in some way. *Become a monthly partner ! Or encourage your employer or church to support Hand Up monthly.*Help us connect with funding opportunities to continue the needed work on houses (roof and porch).*Consider being a volunteer at one of the houses (a volunteer application is attached) Consider being a “Weekend Warrior”. At least two weekends a month we want to give our house managers some time off. We can do this two ways: approved individuals come to the house and stay for a specific time, or for approved homes and families the participants can stay the weekend with a host family. If you are interested get in touch with me or my wife Tammi and we can give more details.(respond to email or call at 423-602-4098 for more information)

Cant wait to hear how you might help us give a Hand UP to someone who needs it!

love ya!

Hand UP

Providing a Hand Up to a better Life!

October 2017

Hello Friends, Just taking a few minutes to share with you where we are at the Hand Up Houses. Things are going smoothly. This past weekend we had an individual come and stay at the women's house giving a much needed break for the house manager Ms. Tammie. We also had a host family take in the man from men's house giving Mr. Randy a break as well. This week we added a female to the women's house. We are excited about working with her. There is another female approved to come in and this could happen next week. Continue to pray for the leadership of our homes. Randy at the men's house feels God leading him to move on soon. Pray we find the man God has in mind to be the leader of this home.

Thanks to all of you who have helped out in some way. God is working mightily in our first two participants and we are convinced the best is yet to come. If you have a church or business who would give us an opportunity to come and share we would love it. I could come and bring any of our participants and let you see what God is doing. On July 3, 2017 the Journey begins for Hand UP ministry as well as the first two participants. The homes are move in ready but not finished. The women even moved in with no a/c but with fans they are surviving. The first night went well with a home cooked meal for the women and the men were treated by another volunteer to a meal out. The house managers and participants spent most of the evening and first morning getting to know each other and getting house in a fasion that worked with them and their needs. The next day everyone got together for a cookout and meet and greet with alot of the volunteers and board members who were available. It was a time of sharing with participants and their families. Journals and CR bibles were handed out and some of the 'story' behind this day was shared. God showed His grace and mercy through His prescence. We all enjoyed being together. Everyone left with an excitment that we had just expierenced a beginning of something special. Thank you all who have contributed to making this day an incredible day. Thank You Jesus the One to Who we give all honor and glory!  The One who has and will continue to make all goods things come together.
